The best way to get an International job these days is to stay informed & updated about the world we live in
through the use of the internet, books, networking, TV & radio, newspapers, magazines, trade shows & to travel
around yourself.  This will serve as a foundation to understanding how markets are changing, how countries are
changing, how technologies are affecting the world and how it will all relate to you and the people around you.

When it comes to actually taking steps forward to working towards your goals for an International lifestyle here are
some of the most popular ways people are getting jobs abroad nowadays: (no particular order)

                    A) Know the local language,
                    B) A company
sponsors you to work or your current company sends you abroad,
                    C) You are
married to a person in another country or have dual citizenship,
                    D) You have a specific
skill needed in that country that few possess,
                    E) Through an
exchange program,
                    F)
Volunteer and hope that something opens up

         3) Unless, you are going to Canada or the UK or you are going to teach English abroad, you better begin to
learn a language in stages.  View our AnAmericanAbroad.com Language Center for language tips & help.

         4) Fourth, now it is time to begin reading books.  There are plenty of books on Culture Shock, Living & Working
Abroad by country, Being an Expatriate, Cultural Differences to know about, etc. etc.  Our online bookstore
will be adding books on an ongoing basis for your liking.

         5) Fifth, begin posting some questions you might have to the community on AnAmericanAbroad.com through
the forums.  You never know what other people know that can help you.  Remember to give back to others
who also are looking for information that you might know.  Network!! Stay active and participate when you
             can.

         6) Sixth, understand that if you don't have A thru F above, then you will have more problems.  It's a common
perception in some Americans minds that we can just show up and find work abroad since we are
Americans.  That's not entirely the case these days.  You will need a lot of patience and persistence and
you will end up finding out that you will usually need one of those items (A thru F) to get the kind of job
you want.  Many employment agencies around Europe and around the world will not even look at your CV or
resume unless you have a valid work permit (or visa) to work in that country.  Also keep in mind that many
governments can be slow with granting work visas.  Depending on your situation, it can be very common to
still have to wait 5 months from the time you filed for a work visa to receive yours even if you are married to a
             local in that country.

         7) And Seven, how do you begin looking for sponsorship (contract) opportunities? In most cases if you are not
highly networked or connected, you will need to obtain a list of businesses in that country by the industry
you are looking into and contact those companies directly.
